Kohagi Matcha Bowl

These matcha bowls are handmade in the Hagi region, in Yamaguchi prefecture, Japan. The origins of Hagi ware date back to the early 17th century, and the technique and style are heavily influenced by Korean pottery from the same period. The feudal lord of Hagi at the time had specially designated potters who produced the ceramics for him, and as gifts to his favored friends. Hagi style bowls continue to be one of the more sought after tea wares used in Chado, a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.

Item details: Because every matcha bowl is handmade, each one has a slight differentiation in finish and size. The turn of the brush when applying the glaze, or the movement of the craftsperson's hand will make your bowl unique. However, every one is made using a rich grey clay, a notched foot and is painted in a white glaze. The colours showcase the vivid green of whisked matcha.

Measurements: D:5.3” H: 2.7”

Care Instructions: This bowl is not machine washable, and should be washed by hand with soap and water.
